Tournament rules
General rules that apply to every OPEN PLAY tournament unless the organiser explicitly states otherwise on the tournament page.
This document is a working draft pending legal review. The final wording may change.
Format
Players are split into groups. The exact group size and number of groups are set by the organiser of each tournament and listed on its page.
The top two from each group advance to the Main draw (the Cup); the next two go to the Consolation draw. When a group has more than four players, the bottom positions are eliminated after the group phase.
The Cup and the Consolation draws are played as single-elimination brackets. The exact match format - games per match and game length - depends on each tournament and is listed on its page.
Matches and games
The number of games per match (e.g. BO3, BO5 or BO7) depends on the tournament and the phase. Exact values are listed on the tournament page.
Each game follows ITTF rules: first to 11 points with a 2-point margin (or extended at 10:10 until a 2-point margin is reached).
Check-in and lateness
The venue entry code is sent with the registration confirmation. The same code is shared by all participants in the tournament. A player who has not arrived within 10 minutes of the announced start may be disqualified with no refund.
Cancellation refunds
Standard refund policy when you cancel your registration:
More than 24 hours before start - 100% refund.
24 hours to 2 hours before start - 50% refund.
Less than 2 hours before start - no refund.
Refunds for online (card) payments are returned as credits in your OPEN PLAY account - you can use them for your next booking. For cash payments, any refund due is settled in person at the venue. Credits CANNOT be applied to tournament entry fees - every tournament is paid separately.
Entering with a MultiSport card
Where a tournament accepts MultiSport, you can declare at entry that you will use a card. It is offered only for tournaments that have published it, and only at venues with a current Benefit Systems agreement.
The card reduces the entry fee by a fixed amount published for that tournament. It is applied after the promotional price where one is in force, and never takes the amount below zero. If the deduction covers the whole fee there is nothing left to pay, but the card still counts as used for that day.
Limits that apply to tournaments:
The number of MultiSport places in a tournament may be limited. Once they are gone, entry continues at the regular price.
The card is valid for one visit per day. You cannot hold both a booking and a tournament entry with MultiSport for the same date.
The deduction applies once for the whole tournament, including where it runs over more than one day.
A verified email and an adult account are required - the MultiSport card is issued to adults.
You undertake to record your visit on the electronic card reader at the venue on the day of the tournament. If the visit is not recorded, the part covered by the card becomes payable and will be requested from you; until it is paid it is held as an obligation on your account.
The standard refund terms apply if you withdraw, but only the amount you paid yourself is returned. The part covered by the card is not your payment and is not returned as credit. The MultiSport place is released for another entrant.
A card declaration made on the waiting list is kept. If the programme terms change while you wait, you will be asked again on promotion before a deduction under the new terms is applied.
Disputes
Most tables do not have an umpire - players keep their own score and report the final result to the organiser. If a point or result is disputed, players may call the venue's head umpire before leaving the table. The head umpire's decision is final for tournament purposes.
TTR impact
Tournament match results are recorded and affect your TTR (Table Tennis Rating) using the same formula the German federation uses. The leaderboard updates overnight.
Per-tournament exceptions
A specific tournament may have a different format or category (e.g. women's, U18, veterans). Those terms are published on the tournament page and take precedence over the general rules.
